Métis Nation of Ontario - Summer Youth Workshop

Métis Nation of Ontario - Summer Youth Workshop

This program is being hosted by Summer Youth Program Facilitators from the Métis Nation of Ontario in partnership with the North Bay Public Library.

The youth workshop will begin with dot art, which participants will use to recreate traditional Métis floral beadwork patterns. We choose dot art for younger groups because it is safe, accessible, and easy to learn while still allowing participants to engage with traditional Métis artistic designs.

We will then move into Métis games, featuring several traditional games that Métis people historically played. These include Cat and Mouse, String Games, and Poison Circle. Many of these games have roots in the fur trade era, and we incorporate teachings about their historical significance while playing.
